Since we got rained out two weeks ago, tournament number 3 didnt happen. So we were able to kick off tournament #4 with no issues. It was quite hot out, and due to the early morning rain, some members didnt show up. So we were unable to do the squad vs squad games that were planned.
The start of the game day, the weather quite nice. We started out with the tried and true game of attack and defend. One team chose the game, one team chose the base. Was some really good game play, and was really hard to see with everything growing in nicely. The defenders were able to hold the base well. Cody tried desperately to take the base from the SE side, but was met with some strategic shots, and well placed players. The main force tried attacking the base from the NW corner. This has always been the main spot to attack base C from, but never works out well, as it showed today as well. Some tried to come in from the East, and did better then the main force, but unfortunately it didnt pan out. I give props to Orion to placing the players well for this match. Even with the base needing repairs, the defenders were victorious.
I can think of two highlights for this match. One, would be Andrew. This is a man who needs to invest in stocks for airsoft bb's. I think about every leaf out there was pissed off at him for putting holes in them. Seemed like two bags of bb's were shot this game. lol. Second, would be Peter. Biggest player out there, but is the sneakiest and hardest player to see. Stood not more then 75 feet from the front entrance of base C, just laying down shots, yet no one saw where he was. Nothing like standing there watching and hearing, "where are the shots coming from? I cant see him." lol. Was pretty funny.
Game 2 we had the attacks from the first game choose which base they wanted to defend, and they chose Base A. Peter took charge placing the players, especially the new players, in directing them which angles to watch out for. The field is growing in, so now it is a lot harder to see them coming in to attack the base. For more then half the match, the defenders were holding them off. The attacking main force was coming in from the SE mostly with hit and run tactics. Andrew through a grenade about 100 feet from the base, and it ended up hitting a branch and only going about halfway. I think that squirrel didnt call his hits, so we will have to talk to them next game day.
Orion decided to attempt the Sneaky Pete maneuver and come in from the SW side, to Base A's blind spot if not properly guarded. The first attempt failed, but Orion came back in and down the same path. No one was even watching that corner, and he was able to sneak right up to the base without a shot fired. He was able to send a grenade through the window getting a kill, then turned toward the front entrance and walked right in winning the game. I let the game keep going as they were having fun shooting each other.
We broke for lunch and we ended up loosing some players. It was getting hot out, but those who stayed, got to play another point game. This is why these players will be in the lead in the points race. The third and final game we played, I tried to mix it up and do something different. While the idea sounded good, the actual game was a bust IMO. Both teams started out at separate bases, and the objective was a force on force, but if you took the enemy base over, the enemy couldnt respawn. So once they died at that point, they were out of the game. BUT I added a twist to the game. In the village was hidden a Nukacola cap. Whichever team found it, they were awarded an additional 100 points. At the start of the game, Orions team went straight for the others teams base, and wiped them out. Preventing them from respawning, giving his team time to search for the nukacola cap. One issue we had was, it wasnt stated if the game was full auto or a semi auto only game. Which most stayed full auto, some didnt, and some players got confused. Which was my fault for forgetting to announce it one way or the other.
I didnt like how quick the game turned against one of the teams, essentially killing the game off for them. Finding the cap was a good incentive, but the first half I didnt like.
So we will play this style game again, but we will handle the base take over differently, and make sure things are announced as to game play. Game idea's usually sound good in your head, but you never know how it will actually play out unless you try it. Its a good way to build on game types, and make adjustments. But we had some new players out playing their first game with us, and they appeared to of had a great time. So thats always a plus. We are growing, and the points race is so very close. Still anyones game whether you are a few hundred points behind first or not. Never think you dont have a shot. With that, ill sign off and see you all next game day.
End of report....................
