Every time I go on CL I get so aggravated by what these people want for their aeg guns. Its ridiculous people ask for just about what they paid for the gun new, when they have been using it for more then three years. Some people think just because they have it modded out so much that its worth more then it is new. Sometimes this is true depending on what externals you put on a gun, but come on, a jg m4 which costs $140 brand new, does not hold a value of $200 regardless of what you have in it. Not to mention this idiot had no external add ons, just all gearbox and hop up work done. Now there is an idiot selling a JG m4 s system used for $200 and claims its a $499 gun. Lets see, Evike sells that same gun for $160 brand new and is also currently on sale for $128. Some people are so damn stupid. This is just an example of what I saw on CL. I came up with a little formula I use when buying used guns. Of course ill try and knock them down as much as possible, but I know what the limit I will pay way before I send him that first email. This is the formula I use for aeg's.
Price of gun new - $xxx
subtract 25% of cost for new
subtract $15 per year gun is used
If it has blemishes or even a crappy paint job subtract $20
This should be the most anyone should pay for a used aeg minus any accessories it comes with. So a two year old gun costing $300 new, shouldn't be worth any more then $175 to $195 depending on external condition. This is for a stock gun. Depending what the gun comes with or has in it, adjust the price accordingly. I honestly wouldn't pay more then $225 for this gun fully upgraded minus accessories. Now if its someone you know, then you know how that person takes care of their stuff so you can adjust your pricing some wither higher or lower depending on who that person is.
Gas guns are a little different for those looking to buy a gas gun used. Gas guns tend to hold their value a hell of a lot better then aeg's. Less moving parts, built better, and are stronger. I find by using the same formula EXCEPT, on line two instead of subtracting 25% from the cost of it new, its lower to 15% to 20% max. So the formula looks like this
Cost of gun new $xxx
subtract 15% from cost new ( up to 20% max)
subtract $15 per year gun is used
blemishes or scratches/crappy paint job - subtract $20
This is by no means a set formula or one anyone must use. I have been buying and selling guns for awhile now and this is my opinion on how pricing for guns should be when shopping for a used airsoft gun especially on CL. I have used this formula for a couple years now and it has worked well. Some people on CL need to realize sentimental value to them means nothing to you or I. Some of these people make me wonder if the parts they list are actually in the gun or not. Just a little info I wanted to share with you all.
